<text>From the publisher: "'With the photomontages, Mills uses techniques to convince us that the surreal is real. Ordinary daily rituals are suddenly transfigured by our worst fears. Reality is out of control. Fears that we usually suppress may not be baseless... the [images] exist on the edge of horror and beauty.' -Anne Wilkes Tucker. Joseph Mills's first monograph, Inner City, was published by Nazraeli Press in 2003 to wide critical acclaim. The Loves of the Poets, featuring the artist's beautifully raw, disturbingly seductive collages, is a work of art unto itself...[T]his gorgeous artist's book features twenty-six collages that seem to be on the verge of complete revelation but time and again leave the viewer on a suspended note. The success of these images, in the words of Tucker, 'lies in the fact that they are anchored in reality just enough so that we are on the edge between surreality and reality.' The Loves of the Poets brings the marriage of artist and book to a new level."

Each card is printed from Staedtler's Master, carved into oriental paper, hand-lettered onto nideggen and grommeted end to end to form a snake-like shape. Colored string is also glued to each card. They are bound in sharkskin over board on the back side. On the front side, hand lettering on the edges of each card tells why snakes are not nice. The cards can be folded down to 6 x 8 x 5 cm and put into the burgundy colored cloth bag (16 x 10 cm.) they were supplied in. <text>"The Pennyroyal Caxton Bible was designed & illustrated by Barry Moser. It was composed & printed folio by Bradley Hutchinson at his press in Austin, Texas ... The presswork commenced in the spring of 1997 and was completed in the autumn of 1999. The text follows that of Frederick Scrivener's 1873 critical edition of the Cambridge Paragraph Bible of the Authorized English (King James) version ... The typefaces are Galliard, Mantinia, & Mantinia Greek designed by Matthew Carter of Cambridge, Massachusetts, based on models by Robert Granjon & Andrea Mantegna. Mr. Carter also designed several new decorative & typographic elements for his types specially for this work, including the Le Bé Hebrew ... The paper is Zerkall Bible. It was custom-made ... by the Zerkall Paper Mill in Zerkall, Germany. The paper for the special copies was made by Kathryn and Howard Clark at Twinrocker Handmade Papers in Brookston, Indiana. The watermarks were designed by the illustrator based on 16th-century French models. The illustrations were engraved in resingrave ... The blocks were cast by hand for Mr. Moser by the inventor of the medium, Richard Woodman of Redwood City, California ... The bindings are from the combined workshops of Claudia Cohen and Sarah Creighton in Easthampton, Massachusetts. The prints that accompany the special copies were printed on hand-made Japanese Kitakata by Harold McGrath ... The entire project was made possible by the good offices of Mr. Bruce Kovner of New York City. - Colophon, v. 2
