"Just One Look: Pairing / Passing" contains two decks of cards to play two games giving the participants opportunities to confront issues of identity through race, gender, religion, and culture.

Pairing instructions: "30 cards. front: b&w images. back: Roman numerals. 1 to multiple players. Players take turns to complete individual rounds. Using the whole deck and without sharing results, the first player creates image pairs for all cards (15 pairs) and notes the pairings on a piece of paper by writing the identifying Roman numerals that make up each pair. Subsequent players: repeat. Compare results. Single players: replay to create new pairings."

Passing instructions:"30 cards. front: skin tones. back: Arabic numerals. 1 to multiple players. Players decide on a 'passing' stack or stacks. What is 'passing'? Passing for black? White? Latino? Asian? Middle Eastern? African? Etc.

"Deal hands face-down using all cards. Players take turns placing one card at a time on the mutually designated stack(s). On a piece of paper, completed stacks are noted by listing the Arabic numerals that make up each stack. Shuffle and play again." - See more at: http://vampandtramp.com/finepress/h/lyall-f-harris.html#sthash.irTleuI5.dpuf</text>

<text>Title from dust jacket cover. Printed and produced by the author at the Center for Book and Paper, Columbia College Chicago. "The book unfolds to two page-sized flaps. Inside the left flap is bound Nine Iterations, a 13-page booklet. The booklet's first spread has an arrangement (abstract? a pattern?) of numbers and page numbers (e.g. page 14 is above the number 6). The succeeding pages detail nine parts of a narrative, gradually accumulating detail and meaning with each telling. In the text some words are given numbers (something is 1, bridge is 2 ...). Nested within the right flap is a book of photographs, delicate grays with green and yellow overtones. These photographs depict the narrative recounted in the booklet, Nine Iterations, each photo showing a portion of that narrative. Certain things in the photographs are labeled by numbers. These numbers correspond to the numbers in the booklet narrative. By working back and forth between the text and the images and using the key provided in the arrangement in the first spread of the booklet, one can understand that each iteration (be it by word or by image) is a partial representation of the whole experience"--Vamp & Tramp, Booksellers website. "This is one of three books that is based on work I did in Ganze Autonomous Prefecture. I was there as part of an interdisciplinary research team, documenting traditional Tibetan book culture, and much of the information we collected has never been published. I spent part of this summer [2012] printing these books that explore ideas of iteration and repetition that are connected to the practice of traditional Tibetan book production"--Artist's statement</text>

Edition of 135. 4.25 x 4.25""; 2 books, each 24 pages; 8 page vertical pamphlet laid in. Printed letterpress from photopolymer plates. Original ink and charcoal drawings converted into digital format for plate making. Printed on Nideggen paper. Composed in Adobe Garamond type. Housed in lightweight paper slipcase. Regula Russelle: ""Last fall, CB [Sherlock] and I, together with two interns, hand-printed nearly 5,000 folios that contained portraits and poems on kinship circle, improvisation, city living, a sense of 'we.' ""Then, during three glorious weeks in October, we dispersed these keepsakes in 'take-out boxes' and by hand at farmers' markets, on light rail and bus stops, outside the Dorothy Day Center, and at other urban locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our aim: to share something beautiful for free. ""All ten folios contained portraits of community members. We chose these individuals because of the way they contribute to the fabric of community. CB chose people she knows well; I chose people I know less well. ""A Jerome Book Arts Fellowship allowed us to partially fund our project. The boxed set of books that contains the poems and portraits in book form. It also contains a brief description of our project. ""The project was a huge success. Almost everyone we approached took a couple of the prints – one to keep and one to pass along. Many people came after us to tell us how they had been affected, and told us how they would share their poem in class or at work or post it on the refrigerator door."" <a href="http://vampandtramp.com/finepress/a/accordion-productions.html">http://vampandtramp.com/finepress/a/accordion-productions.html</a>"</text>
