Description
Poems by Virginia Mudd and Clifford Burke. Monoprints by Virginia Mudd. With brief epigraphical quotes from Kahlil Gibran, Thoreau, and the unnamed "Desert Fathers." Dedicated to the Galisteo Basin, a former home of the printers, this accordion-fold, broadside-like book, is a tribute in image and word to the endangered treasures of life—silence, solitude, wilderness—for "How on Earth can our fragile souls / survive to meet a good death / if there is no silence to show the way?" Letterpress from handset Bell types. The monoprint image that stretches across the top of the unfolded four-page spread is a richly-inked block print of the Ortiz Mountains. Bound in boards covered in Mexican bark paper. http://www.vampandtramp.com/finepress/d/sample.html (accessed 6/29/15)
