Description
Eighth in Booklyn's series of artists' chapbooks, Charmaine Wheatley's 30% of Buffalo addresses Buffalo, New York's astounding illiteracy rate by telling the stories of some of the creative and resourceful individuals who have sought help at Literacy Volunteers of Western New York. Over the course of three years, Wheatley made sketches and listened to the conversations of the organization's students and tutors. This book collects some of Wheatley's observations, which are loosely organized using a comic book format in which watercolor illustrations flow into one another in dated segments annotated with handwritten notes and descriptions. The cover of each book features a tipped-in reproduction of one of Wheatley's drawings.
