July 2, 1945: Mahard's first letter while out in the field for the bivouac. He doubts there will be any time to write more letters until he returns to the fort.
July 3, 1945: Mahard's second letter while out in the field for the bivouac.
July 4, 1945: Mahard's third and final letter written while out in the field for the bivouac. The following days' letters were written after his return.
July 5, 1945: Mahard's 30th birthday. Mahard's platoon ambushed another group. They shouted "bang! bang!" to avoid soiling their rifles by firing blanks.
July 6, 1945: The final mock battle of bivouac and the march back to camp.
July 12, 1945: Mahard has a job at the Battalion Headquarters. He wants Marian to move out to Washington so they can visit each other.
July 13, 1945: Mahard had a hectic day at work and won't be in that position much longer. This delays plans for Marian to move out to Washington.
July 14, 1945: Mahard's last day as a clerk in the orderly room and his transition into the new barracks.
July 15, 1945: Mahard telling Marian about the new barracks the battalion has moved into.
July 17, 1945: Mahard begins his special training and tells Marian to move out to Washington as soon as possible.
July 18, 1945: Mahard telling his parents about his special training.
